As a wedding photographer in the UK, I am lucky to photograph weddings at many different venues with many different wedding themes.

From romantic wedding venues such as Berkeley and Thornbury Castle to rustic Cotswold wedding barns Upcote Barn, The Kingscote Barn, Great Tythe barn in Tetbury. There is a place for any type of wedding. And can I add, your wedding photography will look insane no matter what theme you choose!

So let’s get down to the nitty and talk about the 4 Popular Wedding Themes in the UK

1. Rustic Wedding Theme

With so many beautiful, transformed wedding barns in the UK, it is no wonder that a rustic style wedding is one of the top wedding themes for couples. Working as a Gloucestershire wedding photographer, I am surrounded by beautiful rustic barns. They are perfect for hosting a wedding full of colourful bunting, wildflowers, naked wedding cakes, and why not throw in a ceilidh band for the evening?

Rustic weddings can have a DIY approach. Rustic weddings are a dream for couples who love to do things themselves. If you have any creative bone in your body and love Pinterest, a rustic wedding is a great way to achieve a relaxed wedding style on a budget, but yet with the beauty of elegance.

Rustic weddings can also look fantastic in a tent or a marquee. With options such as marshmallow roasting, hay bales with blankets laid out for guests to cuddle into in the evening, and let’s not forget a hog roast or a pizza oven waiting for evening guests to dish up.

There are a number of Cotswold and Gloucestershire wedding venues that can host a marquee or tent. Such as Pauntley court, Euridge House and a Lost Orangery, or The Manor House Hotel in Castle Coombe. These can give you a romantic setting and a place for your guests to spend the night.

2. Classic wedding

A classic wedding is elegant and traditional. With the bride arriving at the front doors of the church in a vintage car, to walking down the aisle of a great cathedral such as Malmesbury Cathedral. Your classic wedding will be already wowing your guests.

With venues such as Elmore Court designed and laid out for a wedding that dreams are made of. The couple and their wedding guests have both spaces outside and inside should the weather not cooperate. It also has room for your close family and friends to stay the night.

Classic wedding themes are popular in the UK. With beautiful flowers such as tall floral centrepieces with matching menu cards. Cotswold venue Barnsley House can host an intimate wedding breakfast. With centrepieces, candles surrounding your reception for the perfect ambience. The cake may take on an elegant three-tiered white fondant cake with edible flowers cascading down the front.

The outdoor space may have a variety of lawn games for their guests while they drink champagne and eat canapés. Wedding games are a great way to help guests mingle throughout the day. It helps pass the time between the ceremony and the waiting for first dance after the wedding breakfast. A great way to get your hands on lawn games is via Facebook marketplace or eBay. You can usually find a couple who are trying to sell on games that they had for their own wedding. Not only can you usually get them at a good price but you can sell them on after your wedding for probably what you paid for them! Bonus!

3. Festival wedding

If you are the type of couple that are known for wearing their welly boots, getting on your backpack and going hiking. Or maybe drinking beer in a big field at Glastonbury, then a festival style wedding theme is perfect for you.

Using companies such as The Country Marquee Company, you can put a tent up in a field such as The Cotswold Field of Dreams and create your own festival wedding.

You can go as far as having a petting zoo, game zone, and let’s not forget something exciting such as fireworks for the evening entertainment.

4. Vintage wedding

Are you a classic kind of couple but love the vintage feel? If that’s the case then a vintage wedding may be the perfect wedding theme for you. Spending your weekend going through charity shops and collecting in a variety of vintage cups and saucers, cutlery, and linens, you can create a beautiful vintage theme wedding.

Wedding venues in Somerset such as The Silk Mill will give you a whitewashed backdrop. You can put your own vintage spin on the space around you.

Pinterest may become your best friend as you begin pinning a variety of ideas on how you can do things yourself in collaboration with vintage ideas.

This is also a great time to step out of the comfort zone of a traditional wedding cake and do your own take on your grandmother’s favourite dessert. It is not uncommon at a wedding for one of the guests to be an avid baker and be more than happy to offer to make your wedding cake as a gift. As much as the cake is a show stopper on the day, a cake made with love and careful consideration by a family member can take your cake to a new level.
